Part of what makes Kidsnet so effective is its customization capabilities. You can choose from two different forms of customization. One, using the pre-selected settings Kidsnet offers based on the age appropriate level you assign. The other, is to customize any of the levels, creating protection that is specific to your child.

The pre-selected settings are broken into four categories:

• Content appropriate for children of all ages and denies access to E-mail, chat rooms and instant messaging. Details
   
• Content geared toward a broader range of children's audiences. More types of content may be viewed; however e-mail, chat rooms and instant messaging are not permitted. Details
   
• Includes some material not suited for younger children, mild expletives, limited violence and educational sexual content. E-mail and instant messaging is denied; moderated chat is available. Details
   
• Content suited for teens and parents, more sophisticated content, including artistic, educational and medical nudity and sex, and sports related violence. E-mail, chatrooms and instant messaging are allowed. Details
